A major political realignment is all set to happen in the state of Telangana following the TDP’s inability to prove its relevance in the new state and the ruling TRS becoming invincible.
While TRS supremo and chief minister is exploring the possibility of joining the NDA government at the centre, the Telangana BJP is said to have come to the conclusion that TDP is a dead-weight to be discarded immediately. Many BJP leaders think that the TDP did not give effective fight in the recently held GHMC election because of vulnerabilities of TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu. As long as TRS is a ruling party, BJP leaders think, TDP would have difficulty in fighting election in new state. So, sailing with TDP in Telangana would permanently cripple the BJP in electoral politics, they say.
In spite of the strong BJP-TDP alliance in the Andhra Pradesh, T-BJP wants to call it quits. Also, the party wants to develop itself into a force independent of Telugu Desam party to face the 2019 elections. And before that it wants to test it own influence in the Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations, which are going to polls in next few days. As a prelude to it the Warangal BJP leadership is planning to announce the full list of candidates to 58 wards in the corporation . The Warangal BJP unit has passed a resolution that the party had nothing to with the Telugu Desam Party and it should go it alone in the elections to Warangal Municipal corporation. According to sources in the BJP, Khammam district unit is also mulling over to pass a resolution on the same lines. The BJP leaders apprehend that continued alliance with TDP would alienate some important sections from BJP and there is nothing that the TDP could bring on to the table.
” We thought TDP is relevant in Telangana even after formation of separate state. Hyderabad has considerable number of people from Seemandhra origin. Our assessment was that the TDP would garner the support from this huge constituency in Hyderabad. Similarly we thought the BCs, whom the party claims its core constituency, would also help BJP-TDP alliance to win the GHMC election. This also proved incorrect. Added to this the party was not in a position to fight with TRS, which is the ruling party on its failures in the past 22 months. Instead the party relied mostly on its developmental programs it initiated in between 1994 and 2004, which was long forgotten due to the later developments in Hyderabad. Basic deficiency is its inability to take on the TRS. When in Hyderabad, where Seemandhra people form major chunk, What is the constituency it would address in the core Telangana cities like Warangal and Khammam,” a senior functionary of Saffron party and former MLA from Warangal district told telugu360.com this morning. However he hastened to add that the view was not taken out of disrespect for the TDP, but it was driven by some strategic reasons.
