After a largely profitable 2015 and a good beginning to 2016 with the Sankranthi season, the Telugu Film Industry is now reeling from some high profile disasters at the Box Office.
A lot of money was lost with ‘Speedunnodu’, with almost every distributor losing 50% of his investment. Now Sunil’s ‘Krishnashtami’ is also expected to lose a lot of money. Even Nani’s ‘Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha’, which is winning so much acclaim, may cause minor losses to distributors in a few areas.
This has led to a tightening of screws among distributors and they are being extremely choosy with projects. Payments and commitments are also going through with extreme prejudice only.
Producers of medium and small budget films are struggling to raise money and the trend will continue until one or two summer biggies come in and bring some money back into the system.
