Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday appointed three former teachers of Andhra university to the Backward Classes Commission, which is popular as Kapu Commssion, as members.
These members have been appointed under two categories- Social scientist and experts.Under Social Scientist category, Prof. Venkateswara Subramanyam, (Retd.) Professor in Anthropology in Andhra University has been appointed while two academics, Prof. Mallela Purnachandra Rao, (Retd.,) Professor of Physics in Andhra University and Prof. Sreemantula Satyanarayana, (Retd.,) Professor and former Principal in AU College of Pharmaceuticals in Andhra University have been appointed as expert members, who have special knowledge in matters relating to backward classes.
The state government has set up the commission in January and appointed K L Manjunath as the head of the commission. Later, the government accorded Justice Manjunath the rank of sitting High Court Judge. The mandate of the committee to recommend on the inclusion or otherwise of Kapu community in the list of backward castes for the purpose of reservations.
