Dealing an unexpected blow on TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who admitted eight YSRCP legislators in the past fortnight, Telangana assembly speaker served notices of disqualification on those MLAs who quit the TDP and joined the TRS in the recent past. While five MLAs joined last year, another five crossed over to TRS last month. According to reports, speaker Madhusudanachary is said to have slapped notices on the MLAs acting on the letter given by new T-TDP floor leader A Revanth Reddy. The MLAs have been asked to file their replies in five days.
The ten TDP MLAs , who joined TRS in the past one and half year are: Talasani Srinivas Yadav (minister) MLAs Teegala Krishna Reddy, M Krishna Rao, M Kishan Reddy, , C Dharma Reddy, G Sayanna S Rajender Reddy, Prakash Goud, Vivekananda Goud and Errabelli Dayakar Rao .
Even though the TDP had been petitioning the speaker for the disqualification of the MLAs under the provisions of anti-defection law, the issue had been hanging fire as the speaker did not act on the petitions. Apart from TDP, Congress senior leader Marri Sashidhar Reddy also had represented for action against the defector MLAs. Now, like a bolt from the blue, the speaker of Telangana assembly reportedly initiated the process of disqualification.
The action initiated by the speaker is bound to unsettle Chandrababu Naidu as opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy is certain to derive strength and get emboldened by T-assembly speaker’s action. He will intensify his moves to force Andhra speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to take action as per the anti-defection law against the defector MLAs.
The whisper in the corridors is that action of T-Speker will certainly embarrass the TDP national president. It is a open secret that Telangana chief minister and YS Jagan have perfect political understanding, which was the reason for desisting from the contest in GHMC polls. Following the landslide victory in Warangal Lok Sabha constituency and GHMC elections, KCR might have thought that getting the MLAs reelected would not be big deal now. But, is it possible for his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh? Despite the drum-beating of Rs 5 lakh crore investment and 10 lakh jobs, Andhra Pradesh government could not give a single job to the youth of the state. There has been no progress in the construction of capital. Polavaram, which Rayalaseem people badly need, is moving at snail’s pace. Coupled with capital land purchase controversy, the lack of vibrancy in the state economy would pose a problem for Naidu to get these defectors MLAs reelected. And also, unfortunately for these MLAs, their defection is fresh in the minds of the people.
