After its release on March 13th 1986, Universal actor Kamal Haasan’s Swathi Muthyam went on to become one of cult classics of Indian cinema. Directed by legendary auteur K Viswanadh, the film narrates the story of an autistic man who comes to the rescue of a window and her 5 year old boy.
Kamal Haasan’s performance in this film is regarded as one of the best performances by an Indian actor till date. The classical drama bagged numerous laurels and also was sent for the Best Foreign Film’s Category for Oscar Awards ( Academy Awards) in the same year, but was not nominated. The film won various national awards in different categories.
Radhika played the female lead in the film and maestro Illayaraja composed the soundtrack. The film was dubbed into various Indian and foreign languages and received critical applause from all sections of audience.
This iconic film, which was produced by Edida Nageswara Rao on Poorna Movies banner, has completed 30 years by today.
