Telugu Desam MLA Anita wondered as to how YSRC president and Opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy blinking at when his party MLA Roja was using obscene language in the House. Participating in the debate on the report of Privilege committee in Assembly Monday, she said the language used by Roja was so objectionable that she was not able to repeat the words even to cite them as an example. The House took up the debate on the Privilege Committee report submitted by the Gollapalli Surya Rao’s committee today. Even though the opposition boycotted the Assembly, Speaker Kodela Sivaprasadarao allowed the discussion following the BAD decision. The committee recommended a year suspension for Roja without salary and other privileges.
Anita, a dalit MLA, who was the target of Roja’s abusive language, said all those members, who were demanding justice for Roja in the face of suspension by the house, should also think of insults heaped on her. “Does a dalit MLA not qualified for Justice ?” she asked Jagan. “Roja’s comments caused immense pain to every member of my family, ” she said.
The leader of opposition should tell how he would justify the vulgar comments Roja made in this house. “Why has no opposition member been able find fault with the Roja’s remarks,” she said adding that she was expecting compensatory justice on the floor of the House, as the insulting took place “in this very House”.She supported the recommendations of Privilege Committee for stern action against Roja.
Earlier, members, G Sivaji, Bonda Umamaheswar Rao, Kalava Srinivasulu, D Narendra, Gita also brought the behaviour of Roja in and outside the House to the notice of the chair. They said they were unhappy as the YSRC member was not ready to tender apology which would have helped temper the surcharged atmosphere in the House. Sivaji said Roja’s behavior was the height of arrogance while Dhulipalla said she had not changed her attitude towards the house and members even after the suspension. Kalava Srinivasulu , pointing out at the adamant attitude of Roja, reminded the House the age-old parliamentary tradition of tendering apology to the house after a slip of tongue. ” There were occasions when even Prime Ministers, ministers, senior most members of the came forward to apologize the house to uphold the decorum of the House. But, this is totally amiss in the case of Roja, ” the chief whip lamented.
