Anam Vijayakumar Reddy today joined the opposition YSR Congress in the presence of party president YS Jganmohan Reddy in Nellore. Jagan arrived in the town this morning to inaugurate party district office and address the workers’ meeting. The tour is said to have organized to celebrate Vijayakumar Reddy’s joining the party and send across a message that chief minister Naidu can’t weaken YSRC by encouraging defections among the opposition MLAs.
Vijaykumar joined the opposition party against the wishes of his brothers- Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Ramnarayana Reddy, who are now with ruling TDP. And the YSRC is touting this as a major achievement against the backdrop of desertion of eight party MLAs to join TDP. A public meeting was organized in Nellore in the connection.
Addressing the public meeting in Nellore after his formal joining, Vijayakumar Reddy said YSRCP would emerge strongest party in the district and the state in 2019 elections. The affection and respect for YS Rajasekhar Reddy was intact among the people because of the programs he launched as chief minister. The last 21 month-long TDP rule proved that a government with ideals of YSR alone would help people come out of problems.
Vijakumar Reddy, who lost Nellore (Rural ) assembly constituency in 2014, some time back met Jagan along with his son Karthik to convey his intention to join the party and Jagan invited then into the party.
It is said that Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy played key role in getting Anam into the fold of YSR Congress. Though his brothers Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Ramnarayan Reddy joined Telugu Desam party following rout of Congress in 2014 election, Vijayakumar Reddy chose to differ with them. Finally, he decided to sail with Jaganmohan Reddy. According to sources, the reason for the split in family is the differences among the brothers in the promotion of theis sons. It is learnt that while AC Subbareddy, son of Vivekananda Reddy was getting priority at the cost of Vijayakumar Reddy, who wants his son also inherit the political legacy of the family. If sources are to be believed, Vijayakumar mulling over fielding his son karthik in 2019 elections. Vijaykumar Reddy might have realized that this would be difficult he sails with his brother and join the TDP. Anam family for long controlled the politics of the district. While elder brothers Vivekananda Reddy and Ramnarayan Reddy ran politics at Hyderabad, Vijayakumar Reddy used to look after affairs at district level. He never aspired for any visible post other than Nellore Mandal president. First time he contested election from Nellore Rural Assembly constituency in 2014 and lost.
