Jyothula Nehru, whose name has been doing rounds as the next MLA to ditch YSRC leader Jaganmohan Reddy, made apparent his intention that he is in the process of quitting. The Kapu leader from East Godavari district revealed this in a subtle way.
He said all his followers and well-wishers were of the view that he should leave the party and join the TDP. The statement, which he made at the media point today at Assembly, clearly indicates that he has no option but to bid good bye to YSRC. Can any MLA cling to the party when his followers, well-wishers and people of his constituency unanimously favor his defection?
” There has been talk that I am leaving the party. I read about my possible switch over to TDP in the media. But, I have not taken a decision on the subject yet. That I should leave the party is the feeling among the people in my constituency. Many of well-wishers are for party change,” he said reiterating that he had not taken a final view. He denied having met finance minister Yanamala on this job. ” I were to meet any leader to join TDP, I would straight away go to Chandrababu Naidu,” he said.
All those, who want to defect to the ruling party, announce that they want to first elicit the view of his followers in constituency. ” I want to go by the view of my people,” is the common refrain of those who are crossing to the other party. Now, Jyothula Nehru, who represents Jakkampudi constituency in East Godavari district, has got the clearance from the people of the constituency even before the had contemplated it. A rare occurrence indeed.
According to media reports he was peeved that the post of chairman of public accounts committee (PAC) had been denied to him and Jagan chose a Reddy from Kurnool district, ignoring his seniority. Nehru, who is now deputy leader of YSRC in Assembly, wants some recognition in the distribution of power. The position of deputy leader doesn’t carry any authority and it is purely a party arrangement. On the other hand the chairman of PAC carries authority, weight, rank and provides a window to the government. So, Nehru expected that Jagan would nominate him for the post.
In the meantime, home minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajap, who is also deputy chief minister, said two MLAs from East Godavari would join the TDP soon. He was sympathetic to Nehru’s predicament. The deputy CM said Jyothula Nehru was being ill-treated in the YSRC and though deputy leader, Nehru was seldom given a chance to speak in the House.
