BJP, now an ally of Telugu Desam party in Andhra Pradesh, is gearing up to tread an independent path to consolidate itself so that it could contest the elections alone in 2019.
After June 8, when chief minister Naidu’s government in AP completes two years, the saffron party is likely take up issues of the people in order highlight the failures of TDP government in all fronts and regions.
According to a senior vice president of BJP, who hails from Rayalasseema, the central dealership has given go ahead to the state party to chalk out its own program of action depending upon the local issues. The absence of permanent state unit president is reportedly holding it from launching its action plan.
The leadership is said to have directed the state committee to submit a report on the alleged diversion of the funds by Naidu’s government allocated by the centre under many heads like capital development, MNREGS, Infrastructure development etc. The state committee had recently reported that the funds had been diverted to the programs that are rebranded as TDP’s which give credit only to the Telugu Desam party rather than helping the Saffron party to strike roots in the state.
After June 8, Rajahmundry-like meetings would be held in all regions or in every district, if possible , and a central leader would frequently visit the state to address these meetings, he told telugu360.com.
The new program of action would be coincided with the appointment of new state committee president. Even though the party has appointed new president for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh has been put on hold as the party is still struggling to come to terms with the idea of distancing itself from Telugu Desam party. While a strong section wants to dissociate with the TDP, another equally strong section wants status quo. The two-line struggle has led to the putting off of the appointment of state committee president.
If the sources were to be believed, central committee is expected to take the decision before June 8. ” The leadership is aware that there is scope for the emergence of a third force. The question before the party is, can BJP fill the gap?. Once the leadership is convinced that it could emerge alternative to TDP, politics of the state would witness a qualitative change in Andhra Pradesh,’ the sources said.
