Abhishek pictures has been all over the news over the last couple of days regarding Loafer controversy. Puri Jagan has filed cases on Abhishek pictures that he was assaulted by distributors. Distributors were categorical that they were not in Puri Jagan’s premise during this time, and many in the industry agree that there was no physical attack on Puri Jagan. It is anybody’s guess as of now as to why Purji Jagan filed six different sections on the distributors. Only Puri can answer this.
However, many in the industry opine that this was bound to happen at sometime due to unregulated distribution market. As has been reported in Telugu360, Abhishek pictures has been acquiring theatrical rights which defies the movie business logic. Take for instance Loafer, which is the focal point of the current controversy. Barring Temper, his last three movies -Jyothy lakshmi, Romeo, Heart attack, bombed miserably at the box office. Similarly Varun Tej is a budding actor still trying to prove his mettle in the industry. “How on earth would any sane business person acquire a Puri/Varun Tej movie for 5.5 crores for Nizam” lamented a senior producer. Now Abhishek pictures is all over telugu news channels claiming that they are “begging” to get some money back. “Distributors needs to introspect as to why they need to beg when they are investing crores into the business” opines the same producer.
And this is not the end of story. Abhishek pictures has bought Sai Dharam Tej’s next movie for 22crores, which is way above young actors market. “As long as unregulated money comes into movie market, these type of instances are bound to happen. Earlier there was another distributor with questionable money sources who used to buy movies aggressively and never used to appear in public. He is out of movie business. This too shall pass” quips a famous distributor from Nizam.
