Supreme Court today asked speaker of Andhra Pradesh to allow YSRC MLA RK Roja to visit the party office in the Assembly premises. For Roja, who was suspended by Assembly for one year for the alleged abusive language she used against fellow MLAs and chief minister, the SC order is a great relief. Roja termed this as victory.
Because, after the suspension in December last, the authorities barred her from entering the Assembly premises even as an ordinary citizen, and she had to stage protest demonstration on the footpath outside Assembly compound. The issue rocked the house for two sessions and led the boycott of the House by opposition party.
Roja challenged the suspension orders and finally it landed in the Supreme Court. Yesterday the Court suggested to both sides to clinch the matter in a way agreeable to both sides. But, the SC upheld the speakers right to suspend members of the House as per the rule.
As instructed by the SC bench comprising Justices Arunkumar and Gopala Gowda, the YSRC MLA today submitted her explanation in the form of a letter to the Court to be sent to the Assembly.
While asking the speaker to take a final view on the letter in eight weeks, the apex court directed the Speaker to allow the member to enter her party’s office. In her letter Roja explained that she had no intention to hurt or insult anybody. She said he had never behaved or used any objectionable language against anybody- either chief minister Chandrababu Naidu or TDP MLAs Anitha or Srinivas. The court asked the Roja to submit a copy of the letter to Speaker as well.
The Supreme Court bench directed the speaker against causing any obstruction to Roja entering YSRC legislature party office. The issue either should be resolved in a regular session or a special session of the Assembly within eight weeks, the bench said and added that failing which the court would take up the case for a regular hearing in the first week of August.
Reacting on the SC ruling, Roja hoped that the matter would be closed now.
Meanwhile Telugu Desam party has welcomed the decision of Supreme Court. ” Everybody had seen the behavior of Roja. Everybody knows how she uses foul language. Recently, she said there were no manly members in TDP,” party spokesperson Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu.
