While TDP president Chandrababu Naidu washed off his hands by leaving the matter of selection of the candidate for Palair byelection, AICC has finalized the candidature of Sucharita, wife of late MLA Ramreddy Venkata Reddy.
Telangana Congress , which wants the family members of the departed leader be elected unanimously in recognition of his services to the constituency, TRS is not for continuation of the tradition.
It suits TRS, which is on the winning spree. Earlier, at the time of byelection to Narayankhed also, Congress tried to gather support to this view but TRS stoutly rejected and won the seat. Congress effort fizzled out.
Now, the ruling party has fielded state R&B minister Tummala for the seat. However, Congress is trying to enlist the support for Venkatareddy ‘s family member from all the parties. While TPCC president N Uttamkumar Reddy called up T-TDP president L Ramana seeking party support , working president Bhatti Vikramarkha called on Jagan and extracted support from YSRCP for the Congress candidate.
In the meantime, Congress high command this evening announced that Sucharita is party’s nominee for Palair byelection slated on May 16, 2016.
Signals from Telugu Desam Party indicate that the party is unlikely to field any candidate in the election as Naidu is not ready to face another humiliating defeat. In a calculated move, Naidu left the matter to the T-TDP which is going to meet tomorrow to take a final view.
A TDP functionary from Telangana told Telugu.360 that there might no candidate from TDP in the fray.
” If at all there is a candidate from TDP, it would be a nominal contest. The mood in the party is to make way for the straight contest between TRS and one party from the opposition. Since the party can’t extend support to Congress, a nominal contest is expected. So, that the election would become a straight fight between TRS and Congress,” the sources said.
Bhatti is also trying to prevail upon the left parties for a common opposition candidate from Congress to prevent the splitting of anti-establishment vote.
