Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who arrived in New Delhi with a delegation of about 45 MLAs, MPs and many senior leaders , launched his ‘Save Democracy” campaign by first meeting NCP leader Sarad Pawar on Tuesday.
Unsettled by the continuing defections from the party, Jagan wants to make his party’s problem a national issue alleging that the defection are engineered by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.
He called on Pawar and submitted a memorandum on the need to strengthen the anti-defection law so that the defectors would get automatically disqualified once left their original party on which they fought the election and won. He also informed Pawar, how Naidu had wooed the YSRCP MLAs by offering Rs 20 crore to Rs 30 crore for each MLA. He said Naidu was also offering cabinet berths too. The chief minister, Jagan alleged, had resorting to corruption in awarding contracts and spending this money on ‘buying ‘ MLAs.
He submitted a copy of the book ,” Emperor of Corruption ” which is a compilation of documents that reveal the corruption of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. According to the book Naidu’s had resorted to the corruption to the tune of Rs 1, 34, 295 crore. They specifically referred to cash-for-vote scam in the book. The book is reminiscent of the book ” Raja of Corruption ” TDP brought out during the days of YSR as chief minister.
He requested the NCP president to extend his cooperation for YSRC’s campaign to get the anti-defection law amended to curb the defections.
The opposition leader briefed the NCP president on how chief minister Naidu was protecting the defector MLAs from being disqualified. He narrated the events happened in the recently concluded Assembly.
Emerging from the meeting, Jagan said he was in Delhi to brief all the national leaders about the unethical practices of Chandrababu Naidu. ” He has no confidence that that he would get votes in byelections because he cheated farmers , SHG women in the name of loan waiver, and the youth by backing out on jobs promised. Since he knows that people are unhappy, he is not ready to seek fresh mandate from the defector MLAs,” Jagan said.
” Naidu is not in favor of seeking fresh mandate for defectors because he has no face to campaign on defectors’ behalf in the constituencies where people voted for YSRC” he said.
He said the book would be given to all national leaders in New Delhi.
