Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s announcement that new districts are going to be created by Dasara has thrown the Warangal district into turmoil.
According to the inside information leaked to the TRS MLAs and leaders, the district is going to split into three -Warangal, Jangoan and Bhupalpalli. While the news has become a cause of celebration among the people of these regions, the other contenders like Mulug, Mahabubabad and Manukota have upped the ante against the government. During last couple of days, the areas losing out in the race of district status have been rocked by protests rallies, demonstrations, dharnas, rasta rokos, tyre-burning incidents on roads etc.
Interestingly the people from Cheriyal, protested the move to transfer their areas into proposed Siddipet district. Siddipet has become the centre attraction in the whole reorganization. All eyes are cast on Siddipet which is going to emerge asmost important district in the state with Yadagiriguatta being proposed to become part of it.
Siddipet is now represented by Irrigation minister Harish Rao in Assembly. Still Cheriyal people prefer to remain in Warangal district to join Siddipet. They staged demonstrations, while TRS workers in Jangaon , represented by MLA Muttireddy Yadagiri Reddy, performed milk bath to KCR portrait. Similarly, speaker Madhusudanachary followers in Bhupalpalli jumped with joy as their town has been tipped as new district headquarters.
However, retired civil servants, academics, Dalit and Tribal organizations along with members political parties floated ‘Zilla Sadhana Samiti’ to launch agitation to get district status for Mahabubabad, which is located 90 km away from Warangal. The protesters demanded that tribal dominated area was eminently qualified to become a district. Tyres were burnt in on main roads in protest and a rasta roko was held at Mahabubabad town. Candle light vigil also was organized.
The people of Narsampet staged a protest rally against the proposal to shift their town to Bhupalpalli. “We are just 35 km from Warangal district headquarters. Now they want to merge our town with Bhupalpalli, which is 160 km away. What is administrative the convenience,” said Akkepalli Ramesh CPI leader, leading the dhrna.
Similarly people from Mulug area demand the carving out of a separate Tribal district with Mulug headquarters. They staged protest rallies, took out candle vigil demanding the district status.
