Tollywood directors are going to face some tough times ahead. The writing has been on the wall for a while but the recent high profile disasters in the Industry have made things worse. Some of the most influential producers in the film industry have decided to rein in film directors.
Talk in the film industry is that directors are causing budgets to bloat, with their whims and fantasies that have absolutely zero backing in terms of script or screenplay. Producer PVP is apparently telling anyone who will listen about how Addala’s inefficiency and lethargy resulted in a budget overrun of atleast 10 crores. The same thing happened with ‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’, though that was not entirely the director’s fault.
Directors are casting high profile character actors and giving them minuscule roles. Unnecessary locations, needless purchase and hire of equipment and many other wastages have so far gone unchecked because of the lenient attitude of producers.
But this is all set to change. Atleast for the mid range and upcoming directors. Perhaps, producers may not meddle with the top two or three directors but for everyone else, tough times are coming. Tollywood producers are about to tighten purse strings and it is bound to show.
