Hyderabad: Congratulating silver medalist PV Sindhu for her heroics in clinching silver medal in Rio Olympics, Telangana Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao on Monday hailed India’s badminton coach Pullela Gopichand for bringing out champions from his academy.
“I asked Gopi as to what mantras did he chant behind Sindhu during the tournament, no reply from though, but whatever he has done, it worked out,” elated KTR quipped. KTR was addressing packed crowd in GMC Balayogi stadium in Gachibowli during a felicitation ceremony to Sindhu. Sindhu’s father PV Ramana, Telangana Ministers, officials along with sportsmen were seated on the dais.
Stating that Sindhu has not just brought laurels to Telangana State, the Telangana Minister said Sindhu is the daughter of the nation for making whole country proud with her achievements.
As suggested by coach Gopichand, the State government would focus on physical literacy in besides roping in international coaches to impart training to the young lot of players, KTR said.
In order to provide good exposure to the players, the Telangana government would come up with a sports policy which would set an example in the country. He further said that not just announcing rewards to the players, the government would focus on imparting training to budding players with an eye on Tokyo Olympics 2020.
