Even after knowing that Andhra Pradesh bifurcation is inevitable, the political parties had staged numerous dramas to secure political mileage out of the issue cashing the sentiments of the Seemandhra people. Even now, the same political parties are trying the same over special status issue.
The ruling TDP and its ally the BJP will suffer badly, if the sentiment of wanting special status among the public continues to be alive. While the opposition parties are making several efforts to rake up and provoke people to ensure that the special status has not subdued, the ruling TDP and the BJP are trying to obliterate the issue in the minds of Andhra people.
Both the TDP and the BJP leaders, who made calculations and tried to win over the other after the announcement of the special development package, are now focusing on countering the opposition parties. The issue would not have become so serious if TDP and BJP had made up their minds on the special status issue earlier.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had made a right thing by not flying to national capital soon after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the package. Though the BJP came under the attack for denying special status, the TDP escaped the public anger.
Although, the BJP made some criticism against Jana Sena leader K Pawan Kalyan, later it the saffron party predicted that it would backfire the party as it may face severe opposition from the people.
Now the BJP pressed the damage-control button. The BJP leadership seems to have finally compromised with the remarks made by Pawan Kalyan on Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu.
Since Andhra Pradesh is in dire need of Central government’s assistance, Naidu’s attitude against the Centre is also soft. There is no alternative option for both the TDP and the BJP. So, the special status issue has become an adhesive between both the parties. There will be a chance for the opposition parties – the YSRCP and the Congress to unite. However, the TDP government has lot to do in the next two and half years only then the Seemandhra people may forgive the TDP on its misdeeds.
