Chennai: Beware if you’re a biryani lover, you may been served with a cat meat instead of hot ‘Dumki’ biryani, mutton or chicken biryani of Deccani. In some eateries in parts of Chennai city, the business is rampant for the past two years or so. The authorities stumbled upon knowing how roadside eateries are serving the cat meat to earn quick money.
Recently, a roadside eatery owner was caught selling the cat meat in lieu of mutton. Cats, which were housed in an closed enclosure, were butchered, cleaned and cooked with biryani rice by adding various flavours to get the taste and served ready to the hungry customers. The police along with officials and volunteers from People For Animals (PFA) busted the illegal cat meat trade and booked the owner.
Cats seemed to have relived after they were rescued and provided shelter at animal-rescue home in the city. Apparently traumatised, by they way they had been treating by their owner, the animals were completely in a dehydrated and starved condition when they arrived at the home. The moment they were let out from the cage, they gradually came out and relaxed seeing the green environs of the animal enclosure.
The video of the cats being rescued is circulating in the social media sites. And the animal lovers are expressing joy and so are the cats to find their new home.
