After the united opposition mounted assault on the government over demonetization, both the houses of Parliament witnessed uproar on the second day today, demanding presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who announced the government’s decision on Nov 8th evening.
Rajya Sabha witnessed ruckus when the opposition insisted Modi’s presence when the debate to be continued on the second day. The opposition demanded in Lok Sabha to takes up adjournment motions on this issue.
When the opposition members insisting on their demands, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned again till 2 PM and the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day. The entire opposition in Rajya Sabha went to well cornering the government on this issue.
In the Lok Sabha TMC, Congress and other parties given adjournment notices demanding for a discussing the issue, keeping away other items in the agenda for the day. It may be recalled that the Rajy Sabha started discussion yesterday by suspending all other business.
The opposition which was seen united in attacking the government on this issue, seen divided in Rajya Sabha.When the house re-assembles at 12.30, TMC demanded voting on the issue after debate, but oppose the move for constitution of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). However, Congress, Left and other parties demanded JPC, but oppose voting.
Leader of Opposition Mallikharjun insisted that Lok Sabha speaker should immediately allow a debate on demonetization. Later he indicated that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is likely to participate in the discussion on this issue in the house.
