Telangana Assembly
The winter session of the Telangana Assembly will be meeting in the third week of this month. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to convene both Legislative Assembly and Legislative council after December 14.
Chief Minister is holding district collectors’ conference on December 13 and 14. Assembly session is likely to be started after this conference. Actual dates may be finalised in a week. The session is likely to be continued for a week.
The Legislature had a brief meeting on August 30 to pass the GST Bill. Earlier, the Telangana Legislature had met for 16 days in the Budget Session. Together, the Legislature had met for 17 days in the last 11 months.
Taking into account the last session of August 30, the Assembly need not be convened till January 30, 2017, as per the Constitutional requirement of not having six months gap between two sessions. The opposition has been demanding to convene assembly session to discuss many pressing problems of the people.
Issues like bifurcation of districts, revenue loss on account of demonetization, state government’s pursuit for cashless transactions and other issues likely to come up in the session.
If the assembly session dates are finalised, Assembly speaker S. Madhusudana Chary and Legislature secretary S. Raja Sadaram are likely to cancel their London visit for attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meet from December 13 to 20.
Though there was a suggestion to convene the session from December 22, to facilitate speaker attend London conference, chief minister is unlikely to favour as the house could not run for a minimum period of one week due to ensuing the Christmas holidays.
