After a prolonged uncertainty over the conduct of winter session of the Assembly, finally the Telangana government has finalised to hold it from from December 16. The session is likely to last for about 10 days. This was decided after a meeting Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had with his Cabinet colleagues.
However, the Congress expressed disappointment and sought for a longer session. The Chief Minister had requested Legislature Secretary Raja Sadaram to send a request note to Governor ESL Narasimhan for convening the session.
The winter session is expected to discuss the impact of demonetisation on state economy and the proposal to introduce digital transactions in all sectors. The progress made in two-bedroom housing scheme and the implementation of welfare and developmental programmes would also come up for debate.
Opposition parties are gearing up to raise issues like loan-waiver scheme and non-clearance of fee reimbursement for colleges. It was decided that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting would be held on December 15.
MLC and senior Congress leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy accused that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was conducting Assembly session at his whims and fancies to meet his political gains. Though the state was witnessing a host of issues, he deplored that the government is not ready to discuss them.
He demanded that the government should have organised Assembly sessions at least for 15 days to discuss all outstanding issues confronting the people of the state. Though as per the provisions, the government should run Assembly sessions at least for 52 days but the government is violating the said rule.
Stating that the KCR government is mocking the democracy norms, he recalled till now the session was held only for 11 days during 2016.
