Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made several promises during 2014 poll campaign for the faster growth of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh, was practically seems to be silent later. He had visited briefly only once last year for laying foundation stone for state’s new capital city Amaravati. Here also people who expected he would centre’s liberal assistance for the state, were disappointed as he only presented a pot of soil and another bottle of water.
Except taking part in Navy exercise at Visakhapatnam, early this year, he hardly attended any event in the state this year. However, it seems he would focus more on the state during next two years, in view of growing discontent among people for denying `special status’ to the state.
In the month of January, he will be visiting twice to the state. On January 3, he will be visiting Tirupati to preside over five-day 104th Indian Science Congress. Nine Nobel laureates of USA, Japan, France, Israel and Bangladesh and 200 scientists from world over, besides over 10,000 participants are expected to participate in this Congress.
On this occasion, state BJP is planning to organise a public meeting in Tirupati to highlight his government’s efforts for the development of the state. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is also said to be planning for few official programmes on this occasion.
Against, he will be visiting Vijayawada on January 12, to inaugurate the new terminal building at Vijayawada airport. The airport will cater to air services to the city of Amaravati, the new upcoming capital of Andhra Pradesh.
According to an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official the new airport terminal building at Vijayawada airport will offer to enhance passenger capacity and wider space inside the airport for parking aircraft besides other infrastructure upgrades.
The distance between Amaravati and the airport at Vijayawada is close to 78 kilometres, for which an eight lane road is also being constructed connected to link both the cities which would reduce the travel time. Both Chief Minister and state BJP are also planning to make use this visit to organise some programmes on this occasion.
