The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day today and the Rajya Sabha till 2:30 pm, mainly on the issue of demonetization. When the Lok Sabha re-assembled after two adjournments in the pre-lunch session, Opposition members trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan tried to conduct the slated business, however opposition members continued their protests alleging that the government is making excuses to run away from the discussion on Demonetisation.
Amid noisy scenes, the House adopted a resolution to suspend Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann for the remaining period of Winter Session on charges of posting video clippings of Parliament House in social media. The Committee headed by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said his actions are highly objectionable and unbecoming of an MP. As the uproar continued, Ms Mahajan adjourned the House till Wednesday.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2.30 pm today over demonetization issue and reduction of import duty on wheat. When the House met for the day, several opposition leaders criticized the government alleging that the move will adversely affect the farmers even when the country is observing the 50th year of green revolution.
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ramvilas Paswan said there is no shortage of wheat. As noisy scenes continued, Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien adjourned the House till noon. When the House reassembled, there was no improvement in the situation leading to its adjournment for a second time.
