A day after deploring that “demonetisation is not what we wished for but it happened”, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Nadu today strongly refuted reports that he changed his stand. Giving a clarification, he said that he continues to believe that the decision is good but only the implementation is challenge.
He deplored that his comments were “distorted” and that he has been supporting the exercise. He, however, said that the problems arising in the aftermath of demonetisation “continue” as “we are going (about them) in the current manner”. He stressed the need to take an innovative approach.
His remarks at TDP MLA’s meet against demonetization came as a surprise to everyone particularly when he himself had been one of the first to support the decision and was also the head of a 13-member committee appointed by the Centre to look into demonetization issues.
He was quoted of stating yesterday that he was still unable to find a solution to the ongoing currency crisis, stating “I could solve many crisis, including the August crisis) when the TDP was dethroned in a coup in the party in the 80s in less than a month. But the fallout of demonetisation could not be addressed so far”.
He also expressed his clear disappointment with the Centre, which is now seen as `clueless’ in resolving this crisis. However, he denied that he has changed his stand.
His son and TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh too offered to clarify as he said that the Chief Minister had only said that he is spending time resolving issues post demonetization and that it is taking time to return to normalcy.
