The opposition parties – Congress, TDP and CPM members today stayed away from the Telangana Assembly proceedings to protest against the alleged unfair attitude of the TRS government and the Speaker towards them in the House.
They alleged that the state government and the Speaker were not giving them proper opportunity to speak in the House. The opposition parties cited the example of a debate on land acquisition in the House yesterday, when they allegedly did not get proper opportunity to speak. The parties said they gave separate letters to the Speaker about their decision to stay away from the proceedings for the day.
However, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao said in the House that the opposition parties got appropriate time since the winter session began 11 days ago. The government has been accommodating towards the opposition, he said.
Congress members protested against the way by which the land acquisition bill was passed in the assembly yesterday without giving proper time for the opposition to discuss. Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy ridiculed for not providing time to the opposition members to speak in the house and termed it as an undemocratic act.
TDP leader A Revanth Reddy deplored that there is no change in the attitude of the Speaker, though the opposition has been accusing several times protesting his unitary way. He said they have also requested BJP members to boycott the proceedings, but there was no proper response from them.
He said yesterday when he was about to speak, the mike was given to Harish Rao and later to the Chief Minister. He asked the Speaker “you will not give us mike even to protest?” Congress Committee President N Uttama Kumar Reddy also protested with the speaker that though there are several seniors among Congress members, always mike is being given to Jana Reddy only.
