Veteran actress and former MP Jaya Prada has surfaced after a long time today at the residence of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in New Delhi, indicating her re-entry into active politics. Earlier she had elected twice to the Lok Sabha as SP’s candidate from Uttar Pradesh.
However, after suspending from the party along with her `mentor’ Amar Singh, six years ago, she was keeping away from politics. However, very recently she announced that she would return to active politics after Uttar Pradesh’s assembly elections, slated to be held in few months.
Following the revolt by party patriarch Mulayam’s son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, claiming himself as the President of the Party, she attended an emergency meeting at his house to meet the Election Commission of India (ECI) officials, to stake claim on the Party’s symbol `cycle’.
She arrived at his house along with her Amar Singh, who hurriedly returned from London in view of deepening political crisis in the party. It is believed that she reached here to extend support to Netaji at a difficult phase of his political life. She also accompanied Netaji, along with Amar Singh and Shivpal Singh Yadav to ECI.
According to Party insiders the decision to meet the poll panel came after Akhilesh camp hinted that it will stake a claim to the party’s symbol ‘cycle’. Party leaders said the new president has to approach the Election Commission according to the party’s convention, claiming to be the real Samajwadi Party and stake claim on the party symbol.
Jaya Prada entered politics through Telugu Desam Party in 80s, become its Rajya Sabha member, but distanced to the party after Chandrababu Naidu take control of the party. Later with the support of Amar Singh, she joined SP and contested from Uttar Pradesh.
