At a time the number of single women are overwhelmingly increasing in our society, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao came out with a novel lifetime pension plan for them. Under this plan, each such woman, who are were in dire straits and struggling to make both ends meet, would be provided Rs 1,000 per month throughout her life.
Already, the Telangana government has initiated various measures like Aasara pension, Shadi Mubarak and Kalyana Laxmi aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the poor, he said now the government has decided to step in and give them some financial assistance.
Announcing this plan in the assembly, Chief Minister said that this plan will come into effect from the coming financial year. District Collectors are being instructed to start registering details of single women in their respective districts.
Expressing concern over the plight of such women, Rao said that poverty inflicts more misery among women than men. He deplored that several women were making out a living by rolling beedis in some parts of the State.
Suggesting eligible women in the state to get their names registered under the scheme, Chief Minister suggested that all the legislators should take on the responsibility of helping eligible women in getting registered.
Stating that the government will issue orders on the scheme immediately, he said necessary funds will be allocated in the ensuing annual budget of the State in March.
