Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s insists for 12 per cent Muslim reservations in the state, bound to make BJP’s dreams of alliance with TRS futile. Rao had asserted in the Assembly that his government will pass a bill to provide 12 percent reservations to Muslims in the State and bring pressure on the Union Government to include the law in Constitution’s 9th schedule as done in case of Tamil Nadu.
Reiterating his commitment to provide quota to Muslims in proportion to their population, he even went to the extent of stating that if the Central Government refuses, the state would fight a legal battle. He further said a bill will be passed in the budget session of the assembly and the legislation will be sent to the Centre with a request to include it in the 9th Schedule, which has laws that cannot be challenged in a court of law.
Chief Minister’s assertiveness makes BJP to understand that his priority would be to influence Muslims, who constitutes 14.24 per cent of state population. From the electoral advantage point, it makes him suicidal to seek alliance with BJP.
A senior minister in KCR cabinet admitted for them to please Muslims would be priority and alliance with BJP would be disastrous politically. “We may be seen as courteous towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other union ministers only intending liberal assistance for the development of Telanaga, but at no point we can afford to sail with BJP”, he added.
Immediately after Chief Minister’s statement in the Assembly on Muslim reservation, BJP’s floor leader G Kishan Reddy strongly conveyed his objection stating that would not be valid as per constitution. Chief Minister is also aware of it. That’s why, he is planning to push blame on the Centre, by just forwarding an assembly resolution seeking 12 per cent reservation.
