The Telangana government is proposing to construct Regional Ring Road for a stretch of 338 km around Hyderabad city. As the present outer ring road is found to be inadequate enough for rapidly expanding city, the state government has sent a proposal to the Centre for the construction of another ring road.
Roads and Buildings minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that the centre has responded positively to their proposal and agreed for its construction. If it materialised, he felt it would be prestigious project for the state.
Meanwhile, Nageswara Rao said that the Centre recently has given its nod for 2,132 km long national highways in the state. The detailed project reports for all these roads will be prepared soon.
He said that the outer ring roads will be constructed connecting Suryapet-Khammam-Kodad, Warangal-Hyderabad, Suryapet-Mothe-Nayakangudem-Kusumanchi roads. These bypass roads will ensure road safety for the passengers, he added.
According to the minister, the State so far received Rs 1,020 crore under Central Road Fund (CRF). Tenders for CRF works will be called for soon.
Expressing concern over the slow progress of construction of some roads in the state, he has directed the officials to take stern action against contracting agencies and consultants for the delay. Till now works have been started for the construction of national highways taken up with the help of Central government’s funds of Rs 2,690 crore.
