Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today deplored that farmers are facing severe hardships in the terms of Chandrababu Naidu due to his anti-farmer policies, Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy has said.
He has toured the drought affected mandals of Krishna district in Gannavaram constituency where the situation was grim and official apathy was glaring. He expressed concern that major extent of farm lands have dried up and it is a pity that the irrigation minister hails from this district. Farmers of Bommuluru have not been receiving water and their lands have turned barren.
While 18,000 acres are to be irrigated in this area water is available only to 1,000 acres which shows the apathy of the state government, he said. The YSRCP chief alleged that as Chandrababu Naidu did not release funds to Pulichintala the storage capacity was not utilized to the full capacity irrigation has taken a back seat and the water brought through Pattiseema has been going down the drain from Prakasam barrage.
In the capital area region, he said that the multi-crop lands have dried up due to the apathy of the government. Not just in uplands but even in delta regions cracks have developed due to lack of water. Chandrababu Naidu always takes a flight from this area but has never bothered to look in to problems of farmers, he added.
Farmers of the region complained to the opposition leader that the price of black gram has fallen from Rs 12,000 to Rs 6,000 per quintal and no official has come for evaluation and no compensation was paid.
The virus has killed the crop and normally it comes only in highlands but now it has come in delta region as well. There is no crop insurance and no official assessment but due to lack of water and virus has eaten the crop, the farmers added.
