BJP leaders in Telangana now in search of a catchy issue to makes the people rally around them. After the party central leadership made it clear that there is no scope for alliance with ruling TRS and directed them to go to the people mobilising them on state government failures, besides giving publicity to central government schemes, they started brain storming to identify relevant issues.
As both Congress and TJAC seems to be in aggressive mood catching attention of the people on various issues, BJP leaders are of view that it would be difficult for them to maintain their identity in state politics by taking up same issues. Finally, BJP sources confirmed that they came to the conclusion that issue of Muslim reservation would be catchy one for the party to aggressively campaign against K Chandrasekhar Rao’s government. As no other party is ready to oppose this move, it helps BJP to preserve its distant political identity also.
Opposing the State government’s decision to provide 12 per cent reservations to Muslims, the BJP State unit has already launched a signature campaign at various places. Addressing the gathering in Sangareddy, the BJP state president Dr K Lakshman termed the proposed reservations by the Government based on religion as against the Constitution.
Asking the Chief Minister to withdraw the proposal as it would face opposition from the people, he said that his party will take up massive campaign across Telangana to draw support of the people for their campaign. He further asked the state government to provide reservations based on economic status of citizens instead of proposing reservations to Muslims.
“Reservation on religious lines is against the Constitution. We will not accept any such move and oppose the proposed 12 per cent Muslim reservation bill in the Assembly, to be moved by the TRS government in the upcoming Budget session,” he added.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister has said recently that his government would bring the 12 per cent reservation to backward sections among Muslims in the Budget session of Legislative Assembly. It was a key election promise of the ruling TRS.
