BJP legislature party leader G Kishan Reddy expressed concern that as many as 100 mandals in Nalgonda, Mahaboobnagar, Medak and other districts of Telangana were reeling under drought. He said that he was told the people and livestock in some areas were facing severe drinking water shortage. But, he deplores that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is even not ready to accept the fact.
During his tour in Nalgonda district, he urged the state government to allocate special funds in the budget 2017-18 to help the drought affected mandals. He demanded that the State government should enumerate the drought in the State and send a report to the Centre which would facilitate to bring drought relief funds from the Centre.
Meanwhile, he accused the State government with diverting Rs 791 crore, which was released by the Centre to pay input subsidy to the farmers whose crops damaged last year in the state.
Pointing out that the Centre has brought Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to provide crop insurance to the farmers with the payment of only two percent of the premium, Kishan Reddy that out of 60 lakhs farmers, only five lakhs farmers were enrolled in the scheme due to the negligence of the State government.
He urged the State government to take up measures to create awareness in the farmers on the crop insurance scheme, which would help them in case of crop damage due to drought, floods and heavy rains.
Kishan Reddy appreciated the Chief Minister’s initiative to lead an all-party delegation on SC Classification to the Prime Minister. In the same way, he suggested that Chandrashekar Rao should also convene all-party meetings on tuition fee reimbursement, Haritha Haram and development of Hyderabad, which was promised by the government in the Legislative Assembly.
