The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is a product of anti-corruption movement initiated by veteran social activist Anna Hazare. It primarily seeks transparency, accountability and probity in the administration.
But the first AAP government set by its founder Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi, seems to be turning to be a name for `misusing of official machinery’. No other government may be matches to it. More than chief minister Kejriwal, who is busy in his tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and gaining electoral gains in states like Punjab, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia actually running the show.
The Anti-Corruption branch (ACB) was surprised to find that the number of his personnel are more than even that of Prime Minister’s personal staff. The PM is having only two third of Sosodia’s staff number.
Sisodia has appointed 63 people as peons and officers on special duty (OSD) in the last one year in his office, which is more than the Prime Minister’s personal staff of 39. More surprisingly, the basic pay of these hired AAP volunteers is even much more than that of Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS) officers.
As per the information gathered by an RTI activist Sisodia is having 10 peons, seven officers on special duty (OSD), seven clerks. Besides, many others have been given jobs without even creating any vacancies.
The ACB has initiated a probe into alleged hiring of personal staff of Deputy Chief Minister against rules, acting on a complaint by an RTI activist Vivek Garg. It is investigating the appointments of his personal staff, which is claimed to have flouted laid-down procedures. “No advertisements were issued, not even a written test was conducted while giving these people juicy positions in the Delhi secretariat,” alleged Garg.
