Hyderabad: Soon after farmers of turmeric and red jowar filing nominations against Nizamabad sitting MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, now, fluorosis-hit people are taking their ire to election battle to protest against the central government policies.
Fluorosis victims from both the Telugu states have decided to contest against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, which has election schedule on May 19 and nominations will begin on April 22.
Two activists from fluoride-hit areas in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have decided to file nominations for Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. Vadde Srinivas, an activist of Poola Subbaiah Veligond Project Sadhana Samithi in Prakasam district, AP, and Jalagam Sudheer from Nalgonda district, Telangana, are filing their nominations.
The fluoride contamination of ground water has been hitting lakhs of people in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over decades. Highlighting the ignorance of state and central governments, florosis-hit people are planning to take it to the national level.
Both the candidates will travel to Varanasi to file their nominations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We want to highlight the problem at the national level and attract the attention of not only political parties, but also people from all the states. Media is also not highlighting the issue to get it resolved. Occasionally, local media writes about fluorosis problem. But, not seriously working on it,” said an activist.
