The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is gearing up to invite tenders for the construction of iconic buildings in Amaravati, the dream capital of the Andhra people. The state government has decided to stick with the original designs for key structures like the Legislative Assembly, High Court, and Secretariat.
Back in 2018, the world-renowned London-based architectural firm Norman Foster and Partners crafted the designs for these landmark buildings. The current government, keen on speeding up Amaravati’s development, has chosen to keep these visionary designs intact. Just Because changing them now could delay the project by another 18 months.
The High Court building draws inspiration from Buddhist stupas, while the Legislative Assembly resembles an upturned lily flower!
Construction Set to Begin with the foundation work for the High Court and Secretariat towers already complete, the CRDA is now preparing to launch tenders for the main construction phase. The government is confident that these original designs will stand the test of time and serve as symbols of Andhra Pradesh’s progress.
The Legislative Assembly spans an area of 11.67 lakh square feet, while the High Court covers 16.85 lakh square feet. The Secretariat and department offices are even larger, occupying a vast area of 68.88 lakh square feet.
Norman Foster and Partners, despite facing challenges during the previous government’s tenure, has shown interest in being part of Amaravati’s resurrection. Their presence at a recent pre-bid meeting has sparked curiosity and hope for a seamless continuation of the project.
As Amaravati takes shape, it’s not just about buildings it’s AP’s dream for creating a world-class capital.
