Out of the 29 states and 2 UTs having legislatures, only 21 states and 1 UT got representation in Modi’s cabinet leaving 8 states and 1 UT with no representation at union. Out of the states that got good number of berths, UP stands at first with 9 ministries while Maharashtra that is going to face assembly elections in less than a year got 8 ministries. In south India, Karnataka got 4 seats, telangana got 1 seat and Kerala got 1 seat. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry didn’t get any representation. AIADMK expected a ministry but Modi disappointed them. In AP, YSRCP is not officially in NDA and BJP didnt win any seats and so there is no representation from AP in Modi cabinet. Other than AP, TN and Pondicherry, rest of the states that did not get representation are smaller states from North east India that have very limited number of MPs.
