The people of Andhra Pradesh are observing bandh today demanding Special Category Status. The Congress, Left parties and people’s organisations came out and stopped RTC services at bus stands. The TDP has also expressed its support but not openly taking part in it. TDP MLAs are wearing black dresses in the Assembly to express their dissatisfaction against the Modi government.
The Special Category Status Committee leader Chalasani Srinivas and other leaders first gave the bandh call. The Congress party is actively taking part in this as it has already made a promise to put its first signature on the Special Status file if it is voted to power at the Centre. Congress AP President N. Raghuveera Reddy along with the party leaders took part in the bandh and squatted on the road as part of the protest.
Now the questions arose once again whether it would be possible to get this status every in the country? There are many northern states including Bihar demanding this status for political reasons. If AP is given this status, those statues will erupt into protests which no Central government is not ready to face. It is indeed a tricky issue as Congress has renewed its promise.
