Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Saturday unanimously resolved to announce a cash award of Rs 3 crore and an employment in Group-I services of AP government and 1,000 square yards of land in the new capital region of Amaravati to badminton star PV Sindhu for winning silver medal in the Rio Olympics. Her badminton coach Pullela Gopichand will be awarded with Rs 50 lakhs for his efforts in training Sindhu to reach the finals.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who convened a Cabinet meeting with the Ministers on Saturday afternoon, took the decision. Meanwhile, Badminton Association of India (BAI) announced a cash prize of Rs 50 lakhs for Sindhu and Rs. 10 lakh for Gopichand. Meanwhile, there seemed to be serious competition between both the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in offering the cash prize to Sindhu.
During the meeting, the Chief Minster is learnt to have expressed happiness over security and other arrangements in Krishna Pushkaralu since the river fete is drawing closer to culmination in another three days.

Subsequently, Sindhu has to be satisfied with silver medal in the Olympics and became the second Telugu woman after Karnam Malleshwari won bronze in 2000 Sydney Olympics.
