Andhra Pradesh government today clarified that it had no problem to allow YSRCP MLA into Assembly if she tendered apology for her ‘objectionable behavior’ in the House.
This was revealed to the media by state social welfare minister Ravela Kishore Babu ,who said there were instances when the Assembly suspended MLAs more than one year. Talking to media, the minister said MLA Roja had used abusive language against the MLAs and chief minister in Assembly. Defending the suspension of Roja , he said, the Assembly is empowered to suspend MLAs under rule 340 (2) of Andhra Pradesh Assembly rules and under Article 212 the decision of Assembly couldn’t be scrutinized by the Court.
He stated many instances where MLAs had been suspended by the House. ” Six DMK MLAs were suspended by Tamil Nadu Assembly. Haryana Assembly suspended some MLAs for six months. Similarly, the Maharashtra Assembly also had suspended MLA,” Ravela said.
Stating that the government had highest regard of the Court, the minister said the decisions of the Legislative bodies can’t be reviewed by the Court.
Roja, by her rude behavior and abusive language, had insulted Dalit women MLAs in the House, which was highly objectionable, Ravela said reiterating that a open apology from Roja would help the government which moved the suspension resolution to reconsider the issue of allowing her in to the House.
YSRCP MLAs in Raj Bhavan
On the other side, led by opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy, the YSRCP MLA arrived in Raj Bhavan to lodge a complaint against the speaker for scuttling MLA Roja from entering the House. But, as the Governor was out of station, the delegation presented the memorandum to the joint secretary of Raj Bhavan.
Talking media, Roja said the court order had provided the Assembly an opportunity to review the stand taken against her. ” In an emotional moment, they might have taken moved the resolution to suspend me for a year. Now, following the court order, they can review their own position on the suspension,” she said.
