At last the ruling TDP washed off its hands of the nagging “Babu and Job” controversy. Today the government sought to distance itself from the catchy slogan, which translates into English as “Babu will come and brings jobs”. The slogan was used effectively during 2014 elections. Clarifying on the job creation issue raised by in Assembly today, Municipal administration minister P Narayana said the party had never promised to offer a job to every family. The ever-dwindling job opportunities has become a serious issue and opposition party has been using the slogan to mobilize the students across the state. Telugu Desam party had published a huge pamphlet promising a job to every family or a Rs 2000 unemployed allowance. TDP published the slogan on a multi-color pamphlet with the signature of TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, which was distributed to every household in the state. YSRC leader Jagan has launched a campaign called ” Yuvabheri” based on this pamphlet to mobilize the students in the state. Jagan devoted most of the time in his speech during no-confidence motion yesterday. So, sensing the gravity of the issue, which is likely to strike chord with the youth and students of the state, government chose to distance itself from the reported promise of one job to every family. Later in at the time of collecting the land for capital in Capital development region too, the government promised a job to each family that offered land to the capital construction, according to the YSRC member A Ramakrishna Reddy.
Clarifying the issue, P Narayana said his party or government had never said that it would offer a job to every family in the state. “Even in CRD area, we never promised jobs to families of those farmers who offered land. The schedule 3 and point 3 of CRDA act doesn’t mention anything to that effect. We said we would help youth develop and enhance skills so that they would get employment opportunities,” the minister said.
Ramakrishna Reddy said when there were about 50,000 eligible in the CRD area only 113 members had been selected for the training. ” Lands were taken from the farmers. They have no crops nor any other source of income,” he said.
But, refuting the charge that government had gone back on a promise of providing a job to every family, minister Narayana said there was no such promise and it was YSRC which was inciting the people stating that the government had not implemented it.
