Andhra Pradesh privileges committee headed by MLA Gollapalli Surya Rao endorsed the Assembly’s decision to suspend YSRCP MLA RK Roja for one year. The privileges committee, which examined the matter of privileges referred to it by the House, today submitted the report to Assembly.
Finding substance in the charges that the opposition member violated the privileges of the members by her objectionable behavior , the committee recommended that she be suspended for a year from the House. Speaker Kodela Sivaraprasada Rao allowed it to be tabled in the House.
The committee has also examined violation of privilege charges against Opposition MLAs Kodali Nani, Kotam Reddy Sridhar Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Jyothul a Nehru. The committee, which expressed displeasure over Roja for ignoring it’s notices to present herself before the committee.
The committee said Roja skipped many meetings of the committee. The committee disapproved of Roja’s attitude and said she bunked the meetings on one pretext or the other. According to the committee four notices had been served and Roja did not care to respond. The committee also recommended that all the facilities, an MLA eligible for, should also be denied for Roja during the period of suspension. As for other members, the committee was a bit soft. It left the matter of taking action against Kodali Nani to the wisdom of the House, while admonition was enough for other members, Sridhar Reddy and Nehru.
Meanwhile, Assembly commenced without opposition today. The question hour was taken up without any disturbance. As they boycotted the assembly in view of the contempt petition against the Assembly, the Opposition YSRCP boycotted the Assembly. After the three day gap, the premises of Assembly today looked tension- free. YSRCP legislature party met at Lotus Pond and discussed the report submitted by the privileges committee.
