As part of the severing links with Hyderabad,the joint capital of two Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh government today issued orders shifting the base of Agricultural university to Amaravati Region. Government is planning to relocate as much administration as possible to Andrha Pradesh before June 15, 2015. From today the agriculture university will start shifting of its offices to AP.
As part of this, the government today officially announced that the headquarters of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Rajendra Nagar campus,Hyderabad would be shifted to Lam, Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.
Following the bifurcation of the state, Andhra Pradesh has decided to make Guntur district as hub of agricultural education. Orders have been issued in January 2016 according permission to establish the Agricultural University with four advanced post graduate centres at Lam , Guntur with funds provided by the government of India, as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014.
This necessitated the change of venue from Rajendra Nagar to Lam, with immediate effect. The regional research station at Lam Farm on the outskirts of Guntur will house the university. In fact,foundation stone for the construction of the new Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University had been laid by union agricultural minister Radha Mohan Singh in November 2015.
The union government, as part of meeting its commitment to make the necessary funding support to the agricultural university has already released Rs 50 crore for the construction of building. The university will be set up at Lam in about 500 acres.
Keeping in view the geographical centrality, Lam is chosen as headquarters of ANGRAU.
