Andhra Pradesh government has initiated steps to locate Assembly and Legislative Council in one of the five buildings being built for temporary secretariat at Velagapudi in Amaravati region. According to sources, one building will exclusively be developed as Legislative complex with provision for separate Assembly and Council. Orders have been issued to this effect.
Finally, by the time the Government Transitional Headquarters , the name given to the interim secretariat, will be ready for the occupation , the total expenditure would be nearing Rs 1000 crore. This is the amount tentatively being spent on the temporary office complex.
Whatever be the name of the secretariat , given the amount being spent on the project, it doesn’t give an impression that it is a temporary secretariat.
The cost of the secretariat complex construction is estimated at Rs 180 crore to Rs 200 crore. Now the government has decided to spend another sum Rs 530 crore tentatively on interior works. With this the total cost of interim secretariat will be Rs 730 crore (tentatively). And there is no guarantee that it won’t go up.
Andhra Pradesh government today decided to rise another two floors on the present complex. The government has accorded permission to Commissioner, AP Capital Region Development Authority, to proceed with construction of two more floor on all five buildings. The government also has given permission to the CRDA to initiate the process of calling and finalizing the engagement of architect for the preparation of Master Plan and DPRs for proposed additional two floors, interiors and internal works including MEP & IBMS, external infrastructure works and External elevation.
The CRDA commissioner will get the complete design of Legislative buildings (Assembly and Council) prepared immediately.
The government has given administrative sanction for an amount of Rs 530 crore towards tentative cost of works in order to go with the tendering and grounding of works to enable the functioning of the Interim Government Complex.
With so much work pending , is it possible to shift the secretariat from Hyderabad by June 15, 2016?
