AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s one of the Padayatra promises is to implement quota for weaker sections in temples trust boards. Fulfilling this, Jagan issued orders now providing 50 per cent reservations for SC, ST, BCs in temples committees. Pro-YCP Peethadhipathis like Swaroopananda Swamy have given green signal for this.
The Jagan Reddy government is going to make necessary amendments to the AP Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions Appointment of Trustees Rules 1987. CM made this historic promise at the BC Garjana he addressed at Rajahmundry during his marathon Padayatra before the 2019 election campaign.
Jagan’s decision created tremors in the political circles. The main Opposition TDP is closely assessing the impact of this decision. Analysts say that this will be a big challenge for the BJP which wants to polarise Hindu vote bank in AP before 2023 Jamili Election. This 50 per cent quota will now be implemented in the TTD as well.
