The Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu is to receive Rs.8 cr from the two Telugu governments for her historical achievement at Rio.
Hours after the IT Minister and Telangana badminton Association President K.T.Rama Rao, son of the Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao, contradicted media reports that Telangana government had announced Rs.1 cr to the 21-year-old Hyderabad-based shutter, KCR announced Rs.5 cr in a press conference after chairing a cabinet meeting on Saturday. The chief coach Pullela Gopichand will get Rs.1 cr for his role in preparing the champion. “We will offer a Group-1 level job to Sindhu if she desires to take it up,” KTR said adding that the government will gift her a 1000 yards of land. He also said that a grand reception will be accorded to the Champion shulttler when she lands in Hyderabad on August 22. Greater Municipal Hyderabad Corporation (GHMC) is making arrangement for a rousing reception to Sindhu and Gopi.
Andhra Pradesh Cabinet too announced a cash award of Rs 3 crore to Sindhu for her silver medal campaign in Rio. It also offered an employment in Group-I services of AP government and 1,000 square yards of land in the new capital region of Amaravati to Sindhu.
AP Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu, who should be credited for his patronage to badminton, also announced Rs. 50 lakhs to Gopi.
Badminton Association of India announced another Rs.50 lakhs to Sindhu. While Gopi will get Rs. 10 lakhs and the support staff will pocket Rs.15 lakhs for their wonderful role in Rio performance, according to the BAI president Dr.Akhilesh Dasgupta. Not to disappoint Kidambi Srikanth, who displayed tremendous performance in Rio by reaching quarterfinals, BAI announced Rs.10 lakhs for him. It is a very nice gesture from BAI.
The Delhi government and Madhya Pradesh government announced Rs.1 cr and Rs.50 lakhs respectively to Sindhu for her achievement.
