After the bifurcation of the state, the Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the premier state for air travelling registering highest growth rate in the country. It seems to be continue for the next few years with expansion of several airports.
Prior to bifurcation, barring Visakhapatnam, other airports used have very few flight careers. But now the number of each airport has been increasing dramatically and flights to various destinations, including New Delhi are being coming.
Location of new capital city Amaravati near Vijayawada, speedy expansion of industrial units, several national educational and medical institutions and see change in the development of the state contributing for this phenomenal growth.
This year has witnessed a tremendous increase of 44 per cent in the number of passengers travelling through flights, as against the national average growth of 19 percent, between 2016 April to November, as against during the same period of previous year.
This year during this period as many as 24,28,612 passengers travelled in flights, as against of 16,19,448 last year. For the first time the port city Visakhapatnam saw more than 15 lakh passengers boarding the flights. The increase is highest in Vijayawada by 76 per cent, probably the highest in the country. It went up by 43 per cent in Tirupati and 21 per cent in Rajahmundry. The newly opened Kadapa airport too had 6544 passengers.
During 2017, international flights would starts flying from Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. New air ports are also coming up in Bhogapuram of Vijayanagaram district, Dagadarthi of Nellore district and Orvakallu of Kurnool district. A new Green Field airport to come up near Mangalagiri.
