Hyderabad: Leaders in the ruling TDP are reportedly asking probing questions on the situation of law and order in Andhra Pradesh. The law and order issue in the state has come into focus, following Chittoor Mayor Anuradha, and her husband Mohan were killed in broad day light. Some of these TDP leaders feel that the incident has sent wrong signals to the people. And, it has potential of damaging the credibility of the party and government.
“Definitely, the incident has sent a wrong signal. We are in power, and running the state government. Yet, the government could not provide adequate protection to its own party’s mayor candidates. What’s more damaging was that, it has happened in the Chief Minister’s home district,” said an MLA from Chittoor.
After paying tributes on Wednesday to Anuradha and her husband Mohan in Chittoor, the Chief Minister said that violence has no place in democracy, and his government is committed to provide security to all the citizens to live in peace and tranquility. Further, he vowed not to allow criminalization of politics in the Chittoor district.
But, the statements of the TDP chief seem to have no affect on people within and outside the party circles, form asking, whether the law and order situation in the state is really on the tracks?
Because, “the chief minister is known for his administrative skills and TDP government has a credible track record, that it would not compromise, when it comes to the issue of maintaining law and order,” said another party leader. But, the Chittoor incident is making everyone to look back and raise questions, on such assumptions about their own government, he said.
For, it is not first time that the Chief Minister had made such strong statements, and reiterated to curb crime with an iron hand. There were incidents, in which people were killed, after TDP has come into power. There was a spate of suicide incidents in the colleges belonging to a ruling party minister. Also, there were complaints against a ruling party MLA attacking a government official over illegal sand smuggling.
However, the government could face all these and crossed the hurdles without any damage to its credibility. But, the Chittoor incident has turned into a sensitive issue. Politically it gives an opportunity to the opposition to take the government to task, for not able to protect its own mayor, and it reflects the failing law and order situation in the state.
This time, and ahead of the winter session of the Assembly, the TDP’s betenoire and the YSRCP had already made a pitch, finding fault with the government on the deteriorating law and order in the state.
