Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi Movie Review
Telugu360 Rating: 2.75/5
Story:
Arjun, Son of Vyjayanthi is a film that centers on a mother-son narrative, layered with action and emotion. Vyjayanthi is a stern and upright police officer who hopes her son Arjun will follow in her footsteps as a sincere IPS officer. However, an unexpected encounter with a mafia don sets Arjun on a different path.
Though not a criminal by intention, Arjun becomes a vigilante who takes on the local mafia to protect the people. This puts him at odds with his mother, who disapproves of his methods and distances herself from him. Arjun then moves to a labor colony and eventually rises to become the top gangster in Vizag — albeit one fighting for the welfare of society.
The story intensifies when a new police commissioner, played by Srikanth, arrives in Vizag . He notices that the powerful gangster is none other than the son of former police officer Vyjayanthi. Meanwhile, Vyjayanthi keeps urging Arjun to surrender and walk the legal path. The rest of the film explores Arjun’s dilemma – torn between his mother’s expectations, the police pursuit, and his mission to protect the people of Vizag.
Analysis:
Arjun, Son of Vyjayanthi kicks off in an engaging manner, with the director showcasing decent skill in handling mass action sequences. The first half is decent, and the characterizations carry a sense of sincerity. However, as the film moves into the second half, it shifts into an outdated, old-school narrative style. Once the initial mass action blocks are over, the storytelling loses creativity and freshness.
The much-hyped climax turns out to be satisfactory to an extent. It includes a mild shock element that may please the masses. The film features an introduction song and two situational numbers, but none manage to leave a lasting impression. Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score is decent and supports the heroic moments adequately.
Overall, the film has a few scattered mass-appeal moments, but it doesn’t offer much for class audiences. Even for younger viewers, its appeal may vary. For Kalyan Ram fans, Nandamuri followers, or mass movie lovers, it delivers a somewhat satisfactory experience. However, others especially those who prefer content driven or stylish storytelling, may find it underwhelming and can safely skip it.
Production Values & Direction:
The production values are solid, with the budget appropriately aligned with the lead actors’ market potential. Director Pradeep Chilukuri shows glimpses of promise in handling mass action sequences, but he clearly needs stronger support in the writing department. Main complaint is his dated narrative.
Performances:
Kalyan Ram delivers a decent performance as Arjun, and Vijayashanti shines as Vyjayanthi – both are good in emotional and action-driven scenes. Saiee Manjrekar plays Chitra, Arjun’s wife, but her role is quite limited. Sohail Khan’s portrayal of Pathan is the weakest link due to poor characterization. Srikanth gets a substantial role as the commissioner and performs effectively. Prudhvi adds some support in a brief role as one of the hero’s allies.
Positives:
The Climax, Post Interval action Block
Few Gripping fight sequences
Kalyan Ram , Vijaya Santhi performances
Mother – Son Thread
Negatives:
Outdated Narration
Lack of Good songs
Overdose of action for class audience
Verdict:
Arjun S/O Vyjayanti caters partially to mass audiences. Though the climax delivers a few satisfying high points, the overall impact is diluted by its routine and predictable treatment. Despite some well-executed fight sequences, the formulaic narration holds it back. In the end, it’s a passable watch for fans of mass or regular action films.
