They don’t pay you money for the first project you are doing as a writer, director, editor, costume designer, art director and whatever in the 24 crafts you’re brilliant with. But they say, “Neeku life istunnam. Ma banner lo cheste ne jeevitham maaripotundi”. This is what most popular film studios and production houses used to say to aspiring talents all the time.
As times progressed, this kind of behaviour changed, with every production house paying even assistant directors impressive salaries. But some youngsters are revealing that daughters of popular producer Ashwini Dutt still employ the same old school tactics. They call young talents, use them, take their ideas, and when someone asks about payment, they broadcast their dad’s rich legacy and how that could help these young talents grow in the industry.
As they are working on director Nag Ashwin’s (he is Ashwin Dutt’s second daughter’s husband) new project, they are said to be inviting visual artists, writers and costume designers to work with them. But to all those who step in, they are said to be asking them to treat it as a life-changing opportunity but not a pocket filling one.
Upset with this unethical treatment, many youngsters walk out of their projects, is what people in the know have revealed.
