Chief minister KCR seems to have mastered the art of silencing the opposition members in Assembly. Of course, he openly announced that after the recent electoral triumph there was no need to talk to opposition members and he was considerate towards opposition as he was upholder of democratic values. He ensured that there was no interruption to his speech from opposition parties, which are getting thinner by the passage of time. In just less than two years, the 15-member strong TDP has got reduced to just 3-member non-entity. The same fate awaits Congress as well. But the process is taking time. So, the CM doesn’t feel he has obligation to listen to the parties which are being rejected by the people, is the opinion of the all opposition parties.
His style of silencing the opposition came in for severe criticism from leaders from the three opposition parties in the Assembly today. The opposition parties, Congress, TDP and BJP, took strong objection to what they called dictatorial attitude of chief minister in the Assembly while replying to the debate on governor’s address Sunday.
They disproved of the CM attitude of not yielding to opposition members who wanted to give clarification or raise a point or two on CM remarks. Today chief minister didn’t allow anybody to interrupt his speech, instead suggested that they could ask their questions after the speech. But, taking just two questions after his speech the chief minister left for Council to give reply to the same debate in the upper House. The opposition leaders lamented that even speaker as also undermining the rights of opposition parties.
During the speech almost all opposition members asked for intervention. Some even wanted to raise a point of order. Not once did the CM yield. He openly refused to yield stating that they could ask the question after completion of his speech.
“The CM has become too arrogant following the results of the recent byelections. He should realize that electoral glories are transient .He is talking as if he is the only authority on the subject of irrigation,” Jagityal MLA Jeevan Reddy said.
The CM with the support from the speaker had insulted opposition leaders by totally ignoring them and refusing to give chance to raise doubts or counter his argument , said Congress MLA Uttamkumar Reddy.
” The CM made serious accusations against Congress. But when we wanted to give clarification he did not give us a chance,” Uttam said.
TDP leader Revanth Reddy said speaker was also showing undue partiality to the treasury benches. The Assembly had become stage for KCR’s monologue.
Accusing that TRS and MIM had colluded, BJP leader Dr Lakshman said BJP members had not been given chance to speak in the Assembly.
All leaders accused that the resigning of the irrigation projects was taken up for commisison to KCR’s family. DK Aruna warned KCR to control his tongue.
